DETAIL PROGRAM:

Day 1: Luang Prabang: Arrival & Evening Market Fun

  • Meals: None (Dinner on your own, opportunity to sample local food at Night Market)

  • Accommodation: Hotel in Luang Prabang

  • Activities:

    • Today, your family will safely land at Luang Prabang International Airport (LPQ). You will be warmly welcomed by our professional tour guide and comfortably escorted to your selected hotel in Luang Prabang.

    • Spend the afternoon at your leisure, perhaps wandering along the riverside or exploring some of the many charming temples dotted amongst the town. With very little traffic, Luang Prabang is easy and safe to get around with kids.

    • Late Afternoon: Embark on a fun one-hour guided walking tour of Luang Prabang’s bustling Night Market. This is a fantastic opportunity to browse unique handicrafts, try delicious local food samples (purchases on your own), and shop for souvenirs.

    • Stay overnight in Luang Prabang, ready for the adventures ahead.

Day 2: Luang Prabang: Temples, Royal History & Good Luck Ceremony

  • Activities:

    • Enjoy a delicious local breakfast at your hotel.

    • Morning: Your family will be introduced to the rich Buddhist culture of Laos by visiting Wat Xieng Thong, one of the oldest and most important temples, and Wat Mai temples, where you can observe saffron-robed monks going about their daily chores.

    • Continue your interesting day by seeing the former Royal Palace, which is now the National Museum. Explore its halls containing rare religious and cultural artifacts that tell the story of Lao history and royalty.

    • Afternoon: A highlight of the day will be ascending Mount Phousi (the 'sacred hill'). From the top, you'll be rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view of the entire city of Luang Prabang, nestled between the Mekong and Nam Khan Rivers, and the surrounding forested mountains.

    • Late Afternoon: Experience a truly special and memorable cultural exchange by participating in a traditional Baci ceremony. This ancient Lao ritual, also known as 'su kwan' (calling of the soul), is held to celebrate important events and honor guests. You'll gather around a handmade marigold pyramid while an elder chants blessings and ties white cotton strings around your wrists for good luck and well-being.

    • Lunch & dinner will be on your own, allowing flexibility for your family. Overnight in Luang Prabang.

Day 3: Luang Prabang: Waterfalls, Bears & Books for Kids

  • Meals: Breakfast (B), Lunch (L)

  • Accommodation: Hotel in Luang Prabang

  • Activities:

    • Morning: Be picked up at your hotel for a short and scenic transfer through the Luang Prabang countryside to the spectacular Kuang Si Waterfalls (approximately 32 km southwest of the city).

    • Along the way, enjoy gorgeous landscapes of rice fields, hills, and traditional villages, offering opportunities to learn about the traditions and culture of local ethnic minorities.

    • Upon reaching Kuang Si Waterfalls, relax and marvel at the magnificent natural surroundings. The water tumbles down and cascades gently into several cool, clear turquoise pools where your family can enjoy a refreshing swim. For the adventurous, a steep track leads to the top of the falls, where stunning views await.

    • Kuang Si Waterfalls is also home to an excellent rescue center for protecting sun bears, an endangered species. You can observe these lovely animals playing and enjoying their food from viewing platforms, a wonderful educational experience for the whole family.

    • Mid-day: Enjoy a delicious gourmet picnic lunch next to the falls, surrounded by nature's beauty.

    • Afternoon: Afterward, participate in a heartwarming book party at Big Brother Mouse. This non-profit charity organization provides Laotian children with free libraries and access to reading materials. You can engage in conversations with local children and young adults, helping them practice English and learning about their lives and culture – an inspiring and insightful experience for visitors of all ages.

    • Return to your hotel and enjoy free time to relax. Overnight in Luang Prabang.

Day 4: Luang Prabang: Gentle Giants & Waterfall Splash

  • Accommodation: Hotel in Luang Prabang

  • Activities:

    • Morning (approx. 8:00 AM - 8:30 AM): Be picked up by our English-speaking guide from your hotel lobby.

    • Arrive at the Elephant Village Camp, a wonderful place where elephants rescued from abusive environments or the logging industry are cared for by professional veterinarians. You'll receive a warm welcome and a short briefing about elephants and the camp's ethical practices.

    • Elephant Feeding: Get up close and personal with the elephants during a special feeding session, a truly memorable experience for kids and adults alike.

    • Explore Elephant Village: Visit the elephant hospital, museum, gallery, and even learn about their unique dung paper making facility!

    • Elephant Bathing: Enjoy another level of excitement as you participate in elephant bathing – get ready to get wet and have fun!

    • One-on-One Experience: Experience being a Mahout with a special one-on-one interaction with an elephant (one person per elephant), learning how to connect with these intelligent animals.

    • Boat Trip to Tad Sae Waterfall: Ride in a traditional Lao long boat to the beautiful Tad Sae Waterfall and relax or swim in its clear waters (swimsuit recommended; water levels vary seasonally).

    • Mid-day: Dine at the Elephant Camp restaurant. A delicious buffet lunch will be served with coffee/tea and drinking water (vegetarian options are available).

    • Afternoon (approx. 1:00 PM): Depart the camp and transfer back to your hotel in Luang Prabang. Enjoy the rest of the afternoon free for relaxation. Stay overnight in Luang Prabang.

Day 5: Luang Prabang → Vientiane: Capital City Exploration

  • Meals: Breakfast (B)

  • Accommodation: Hotel in Vientiane

  • Activities:

    • Morning: After breakfast, bid farewell to Luang Prabang as you transfer to the airport for your domestic flight to Vientiane, the charming and relatively sleepy Lao capital.

    • Afternoon: Upon arrival in Vientiane, you will be warmly greeted by your new tour guide and escorted for a fascinating whirlwind city tour.

    • Your tour begins at Wat Sisaket, Vientiane’s oldest-surviving monastery, famous for its thousands of miniature Buddha statues.

    • Continue to Hor Pha Ke, a former royal temple that now functions as a museum with a turbulent history, housing a collection of religious art.

    • You’ll also see Pha That Luang, a magnificent gold-covered Buddhist stupa that is revered as the national symbol of Laos and is the site of the country's most important Buddhist festival.

    • Late Afternoon: Make a stop at Patuxai, the Victory Monument, which resembles Paris' Arc de Triomphe and offers a stunning view of the town and the Mekong River from its top.

    • Stay overnight in Vientiane, ready for more family adventures.

Day 6: Vientiane: Buddha Park Fun & Departure

  • Accommodation: None (Departure Day)

  • Activities:

    • Morning: This is a fantastic day of fun for the kids as you discover the weird, wonderful, and quirky statues of Buddha Park (Xieng Khuan), located just 25km outside of Vientiane. The park is the creation of Luang Pu Bunleua Sulilat, a monk, shaman, and mystic who blended elements of Hinduism and Buddhism in his art. Keep your eye out for the skeleton-thin Buddhas, a giant pumpkin with a demon head (which you can enter and climb to the top for a panoramic view!), a gigantic 40-meter-long reclining Buddha, or Shiva waving his menacing eight arms of swords! It's an enchanting open-air sculpture garden that will spark imagination.

    • Afternoon: The trip will conclude with a transfer to Vientiane Wattay International Airport (VTE) for your departure flight back home or to your next destination.
