Upon your arrival at Phnom Penh International Airport, our friendly guide and driver will warmly welcome you and provide a comfortable transfer to your hotel. After you've had a chance to rest and refresh, we'll begin our immersion into the capital's rich heritage. Your tour starts with the magnificent Royal Palace, an exquisite complex built by King Norodom in 1866, still serving as the King's official residence. Within its grounds, you'll discover the shimmering Silver Pagoda, famously named for its floor composed of 5,000 silver tiles. Continue your visit at the National Museum, a true architectural gem of Phnom Penh. Instantly recognizable by its warm red terracotta and gracefully curved roof adorned with guardian nagas, this museum, designed in Khmer style in 1917, offers deep insights into Cambodian art and history.
This morning, we delve into a poignant chapter of Cambodian history. Our first stop is the notorious Choeung Ek Killing Fields, located southwest of Phnom Penh. This solemn site commemorates the brutal executions of over 17,000 individuals during the Pol Pot regime (1975–1979). Continue your visit to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21 Prison), a former high school that became the largest center for detention and torture under the Khmer Rouge. These sites offer a powerful, though sobering, understanding of the country's past. We then stop at Wat Phnom, the most famous Buddhist temple in Phnom Penh. Built in 1373, it stands 27 meters above ground as the tallest religious structure in the city. After lunch, we'll embark on a comfortable transfer from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap, the gateway to Angkor's wonders. Upon arrival, check into your hotel.
The first part of your day will be spent exploring the breathtaking Angkor Thom, the ancient capital of the Khmer Empire. Enter through its famous South Gate, flanked by colossal statues depicting the "churning of the ocean of milk." Within, marvel at the enigmatic Bayon Temple, unique for its 54 towers adorned with over 200 smiling faces of Avolokitesvara. Explore the Baphuon, the Phimeanakas, the Royal Enclosure, the vast Elephants Terrace, and the intriguing Terrace of the Leper King. Afterward, you will continue your visit to Ta Prohm, a temple famously embraced by giant tree roots and jungle vegetation, retaining much of its mystical allure.
After a delicious local lunch, prepare for the highlight of your journey: Angkor Wat. This massive temple complex is one of the largest religious monuments in the world, renowned for its intricate architecture and stunning beauty. Explore its central temple, outer walls, and surrounding moat. Before ending the day, ascend Phnom Bakheng Hill to witness a truly unforgettable sunset panorama over the ancient temples, a magical end to your day. In the evening, savor a delightful buffet dinner at a local restaurant, accompanied by a graceful Khmer Traditional Dance Show (Apsara dance), a perfect cultural immersion.
Morning, enjoy breakfast at your hotel. We begin our day at the Angkor National Museum, an archaeological museum dedicated to the collection, preservation, and presentation of Angkorian artifacts. It provides invaluable information and education about the art and culture of the Khmer civilization, with collections mainly dating from the Angkor period (9th to 14th centuries). Most artifacts are discovered in and around the nearby Angkor archaeological sites. Afterward, embark on a unique boat trip for a fascinating sightseeing experience on Tonlé Sap Lake, the "Great Lake" of Cambodia and one of Asia's largest freshwater lakes. Enjoy a brief cruise past vibrant floating villages, complete with their own schools, restaurants, and hospitals, offering a captivating glimpse into a unique way of life.
Leaving the lake, we'll head downtown to visit Artisans Angkor, a renowned craft school and workshop dedicated to reviving traditional Khmer arts. Continue your visit to Wat Thmei, a poignant memorial stupa near Charles de Gaulle Boulevard containing the skulls and bones of victims from the Khmer Rouge regime (1975–1979). Finally, we'll provide a comfortable transfer to Siem Reap airport for your departure flight. We hope you leave with profound memories of Cambodia's resilience, beauty, and rich heritage!
