Day 2: Phnom Penh to Siem Reap – Angkor Wat & Sunset Spectacle
Day 3: Siem Reap – Angkor Thom's Splendor & Farewell
Upon your arrival at Phnom Penh International Airport, our friendly guide and driver will warmly welcome you and provide a comfortable transfer to your hotel. After you've had a chance to rest and refresh, we'll begin our exploration of the capital. Your tour starts with the magnificent Royal Palace, an exquisite complex built by King Norodom in 1866. Within its grounds, you'll discover the shimmering Silver Pagoda, famously named for its floor composed of 5,000 silver tiles. Continue your visit at the National Museum, a true architectural gem of Phnom Penh. Instantly recognizable by its warm red terracotta and gracefully curved roof adorned with guardian nagas, this museum, designed in Khmer style in 1917, offers deep insights into Cambodian art and history.
After enjoying breakfast at your hotel in Phnom Penh, you'll be transferred to Siem Reap, the gateway to the ancient Khmer Empire. Upon arrival, check into your hotel and take a moment to refresh. In the afternoon, prepare to be utterly spellbound by Angkor Wat, the most famous and majestic of all temples on the plain of Angkor. This colossal temple complex, covering 81 hectares and comparable in size to Beijing's Imperial Palace, is a 12th-century masterpiece considered the prime example of classical Khmer art and architecture. Its distinctive five towers are proudly emblazoned on the Cambodian flag. Before the day ends, ascend to the top of Phnom Bakheng Hill to witness a breathtaking sunset panorama over the vast temple plains. In the evening, savor a delightful buffet dinner at a local restaurant, accompanied by a graceful Khmer Traditional Dance Show (Apsara dance) – a perfect cultural immersion.
This morning, delve into the antique capital of Angkor Thom (literally: "Great City"), the last and most enduring capital city of the Khmer empire. Enter through its iconic South Gate, flanked by colossal statues depicting the "churning of the ocean of milk." Within, you'll be captivated by the unique Bayon Temple, famous for its 54 towers adorned with over 200 smiling faces of Avolokitesvara. Explore the Phimeanakas, the Royal Enclosure, the grand Elephants Terrace, and the intriguing Terrace of the Leper King.
Continue your exploration at Ta Prohm, one of the most beautiful and atmospheric temples in Angkor. Remarkably untouched since its discovery, it retains much of its mystery, with massive tree roots entwining its ancient stones. Also visit Neak Pean, a charming fountain temple on a circular island, and Ta Som, a small but classic temple from the late 12th century.
The remainder of the day is at your leisure until we provide a comfortable transfer to the airport for your departure flight. We hope you depart with profound memories of Cambodia's timeless beauty and rich history!
